“Using materials that relate to his personal experiences as an immigrant worker, Austria built a small shelter in his hometown of Cavite, the cradle of the Philippine Revolution, as a response to the environment and former military background on Governors Island. The installation is deliberately crude, cobbled together with irregular wooden pallets and immigration documents adhered to painted canvas as roofing trades the expression of the depth and character of the lives of those whose displaced.”
